OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) โ A man was arrested Monday evening following a reported domestic disturbance and later attempted to escape police custody, authorities said.
According to the Oceana Police Department, officers responded to a call at approximately 6:23 p.m. on March 17 regarding a physical altercation between a male and female near a gas station. Both individuals were reported to be wearing Cleveland Browns jackets.
Upon arrival, officers found Andy Joe Hayes inside the gas station drinking an alcoholic beverage in front of the counter. Hayes was detained and placed in a police cruiser. While in custody, he began banging his head against the bars of the vehicle and screaming. Despite being ordered to stop, he continued his behavior.
The female involved in the incident was advised of her rights but declined to press charges or obtain a Domestic Violence Petition. As a result, Hayes was placed under arrest and transported to the Oceana Police Department.
Once at the station, officers had to assist Hayes inside due to his level of intoxication. EMS was called to assess his condition, determining that he was stable with normal vital signs.
While officers were preparing the criminal complaint, Hayes managed to slip one hand out of his handcuffs and was found standing at the door attempting to escape. He was immediately restrained and placed back in cuffs.
