RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On November 27, 2024, a man was arrested for aggravated DUI after reportedly passing out at the drive-thru window of Sheetz.
Deputy Pingley of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a possible DUI at the Sheetz drive-thru in Randolph County.
Upon arrival, Deputy Pingley observed the driver, identified as Edward Maurer, passed out in the driver’s seat of a Lexus while other vehicles waited behind him.
Deputy Pingley entered the unlocked vehicle, noticing a strong odor of alcohol.
After multiple attempts to wake the driver, Maurer finally regained consciousness but appeared disoriented and unaware of his surroundings.
Despite initial struggles, he was able to move his vehicle out of the drive-thru lane with assistance, allowing operations to resume.
A standardized field sobriety test was conducted, which indicated signs of impairment.
Maurer’s preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .17, more than twice the legal limit.
He was arrested and transported to Elkins Police Department, where a subsequent Intoximeter test confirmed a BAC of .179.
Sheetz employees reported that Maurer had paid for a burrito but passed out before receiving it. The burrito was later given to Maurer after the testing process.
Maurer was charged with aggravated DUI, first offense, due to his BAC exceeding .15.
He remains at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $300 cash-only bond, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
