SWITZER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after using a woman’s car to steal copper while she was still in jail.
On December 9, 2022, State Trooper E.H. Bennett received a call of a Larceny Complaint in the Shawnee Meadows area of Switzer, West Virginia in Logan County.
The call was made after a Frontier technician stated that he had found approximately 150 feet of telephone wire that was cut from their pole behind the Shawnee Meadows trailer park.
On this same date, the caller stated that the damage was estimated well over $2,500 in repairs and cost of labor as well as over $1,000 worth of wire that was taken from the scene.
On Monday, March 20th, 2023 Trooper Bennett received a call from S&S Recycling in Cow Crock that an individual was trying to sell what appeared to be phone wire and copper to them.
The Trooper spoke to a witness about the copper. The individual gave an audio-recorded statement stating that another man and Marcus Cody Adkins went by and had taken her car while she was in jail and stole the copper.
The witness also told police that she had Facebook messages from Cody Adkins stating he had stole copper and was trying to sell it.
Trooper E. H. Bennett had the technician with Frontier positively identify the stolen phone wire on the scene.
On this same date, Trooper Bennett had received verbal consent from the witness to look at the Facebook messages between her and Marcus Cody Adkins about the copper. The Facebook messages were from January 30, 2023.
Cody Adkins stated in the message that he had copper to sell and wanted to go to Cow Creek and sell it.
On April 2, 2023, Trooper Bennett also obtained an audio-recorded statement from a man that is good friends with Marcus Cody Adkins.
He stated that a few months ago around the end of January of 2023, Adkins came to his house and stated that he had copper that he stole from the Shawnee Meadows Trailer Park and was looking for a ride to sell it.
The second witness also stated that he still had Adkins’ tools used for the crime which police obtained for evidence.
On April 3, 2023, Adkins was arrested on one count of Grand Larceny, as well as one count of Destruction of Property less than $2,500. He is currently at South West Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.
