WILLIAMSON, WV (LOOTPRESS)—On December 13, 2024, a man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal copper cable and fleeing from police. According to the Williamson Police Department (WPD), officers responded to a report from Frontier Communications regarding the theft of copper utility lines.
Frontier employees reported spotting a man wearing a hoodie and sweatpants emerging from a hillside near their cut-down utility line along U.S. Route 52. Acting on the description, officers located a suspect matching the details near the Fairview Addition.
When approached by law enforcement, the man refused to identify himself and fled on foot despite verbal commands to stop. Officers pursued and detained him shortly thereafter, identifying the suspect as Scott Johnson.
Johnson was placed under arrest and taken into custody.
