LOGAN COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man is facing charges after he assaulted multiple medical staff, spit on them, kicked them, stripped naked, and urinated on the floor.
On the evening of June 10, 2024, at approximately 7 pm, Deputy R. Allen from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department promptly responded to a call at Logan Regional Medical Center. The call pertained to a male patient exhibiting combative behavior towards the medical personnel.
Upon arrival, deputies engaged with multiple medical professionals who informed them that the male patient, identified as Gary Hurst, also known as the Defendant, had been brought to the emergency room from Lincoln County, West Virginia. He was found unconscious on his front lawn.
The medical professionals further stated that the Defendant had been administered “Narcan” due to a suspected overdose.
According to a statement provided by an LRMC employee, as soon as the Defendant entered the hospital, he began shouting at the medical staff. The Defendant proceeded to kick at the LRMC employees, striking Zachary and Tanner in the ribs.
While the LRMC employees attempted to restrain the Defendant to assess his vital signs, he spat at two workers. Additionally, the Defendant repeatedly yelled profanities at the LRMC employees. Despite efforts to calm him down, the Defendant continued to lash out, kicking and punching the employees, with one being kicked in the abdomen.
Furthermore, the Defendant removed his hospital gown, exposing his completely nude body. He also urinated multiple times on the hospital bed and floor.
It took six LRMC employees to restrain the Defendant until my arrival. Upon contacting the Defendant, deputies promptly detained him until the LRMC employees could discharge him.
Subsequently, the Defendant was immediately transported to Southwestern Regional Jail for booking and housing.
Hurst is charged with assault on health care workers, battery on health care workers, disorderly conduct, and indecent exposure.
