NICHOLAS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is in jail on child neglect charges.
According to court documents, on March 11, 2021, Jacob Conrad, acting as a custodian to three different children, neglected them by telling them he would take them home. Instead of taking the children home, he had them walk several miles down the rails to trails and had all three of them cross the Gauley River in the middle of the night with the water temperature being frigid and putting each child in danger of drowning and hypothermia.
Conrad never tried or had any intention of returning the children to their parents. The children were in their teens.
Conrad is charged with three counts of child neglect. He is currently in Central Regional Jail under a 27,000 dollar bond.
