BLUEFIELD, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, a Mercer County man has been charged with domestic battery, fleeing and strangulation from an incident that happened on Sunday, Jan 17.
Reports state that officers with the department were dispatched to a Mercer County residence after a woman called 911 and said that she was being held at gunpoint by her boyfriend.
Officers spoke with the victim’s family, who stated that they were not sure if she was being held hostage but that she was not home and has been abused most of the weekend.
The officers were given the girl’s assumed whereabouts and passed the location on to the Bluefield Police Department.
The Bluefield Police Department found the suspect, Jermaine Montgomery, and the woman, who was safe upon arrival, in Bluefield and immediately detained Montgomery.
The victim denied being kidnapped by Montgomery, according to a release, but said that she had been physically abused by him multiple times over the weekend. Officers noticed injuries on the victim that were consistent with her claims.
The officers arrested Montgomery, who tried to flee from the police. He was transported to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and has been charged with strangulation, domestic battery and fleeing.
