CHESTER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An Ohio man remains in critical condition after a Christmas Day stabbing incident which took place in Hancock County, WV.
Chief Chuck Stanley of the Chester Police Department confirms that, on December 25, 2023 at 8:31 pm, the Hancock Co 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a frantic individual reporting that a man had been “stabbed in the belly” at 701 Maxwell Avenue, Chester, WV.
The caller, identified as Kevin J Fredrick, 53 years old, resides at this address. He reports being visited by his long-time friend, Eric M Hebb, 52 years old, of East Liverpool, OH.
The two were purportedly the only individuals inside the residence at the time of the incident, and it is currently unclear specifically what provoked the incident.
Frederick states that Hebb assaulted him, leading him to stab Hebb in the stomach. Officers from the Chester Police Department and Deputies from the Hancock Co Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence within minutes of the initial call and discovered Hebb lying inside the house on the floor.
The victim had sustained a deep laceration to his abdominal area, causing his internal organs to be eviscerated.
Responders with the Chester Volunteer Fire Department and Hancock County Ambulance Service arrived and began to treat Hebb for his injury.
Medevac was not immediately available, and Hebb was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital in critical condition. He was eventually stabilized enough to be flown by STAT Medevac to the trauma center at UPMC- Presbyterian in Pittsburgh; PA. There, he underwent immediate surgery, and is currently listed as Critical, but Stable condition at the time of writing.
Fredrick was taken into custody immediately at the residence for the stabbing. He was arrested, processed, and transported to the WV Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, WV, where he is currently being held pending a court appearance. Fredrick faces charges of Malicious Wounding.
