SAINT ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man was struck by a vehicle in Kanawha County on Tuesday evening, resulting in the driver of the vehicle receiving citations for a suspended license and no insurance.Â
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, deputies with the KCSO were dispatched to investigate a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on the west side of Saint Albans. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. at John Street and Fairview Drive.
Deputies arrived on the scene to find a 43-year-old male had been struck by a motor vehicle. The male victim, a resident of Saint Albans was taken to CAMC General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
The 48-year-old female driver of the vehicle was also from Saint Albans and was not injured from the crash.
According to the lead investigator, Deputy C.S. Sigmon, the victim was on Fairview Drive and in the roadway when he was struck by the vehicle.
Based on the evidence and statements collected at the scene, the male pedestrian was repairing his bicycle chain that had come off while standing in the roadway. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and bent over as the vehicle approached.
The driver attempted last-minute maneuvers to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful.
Deputy Sigmon says the driver of the vehicle was not found in violation for striking the pedestrian; however, she was driving on a suspended license and failed to provide proof of valid insurance for which she was issued citations.
