CLIFTON FORGE, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A shoplifting incident escalated into a pursuit and use of force by an Alleghany County deputy on December 30, 2024, according to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers from the Clifton Forge Police Department responded to a report of shoplifting at a local business.
The suspect, identified as Xavier Jones, 37, Clifton Forge, attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing through a wooded area near his residence.
The chase extended to Interstate 64, where an Alleghany County deputy intercepted Jones.
Despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect refused to comply, prompting the deputy to deploy a Taser. Jones was then taken into custody.
Following the incident, Jones was transported to LewisGale Hospital Alleghany for initial treatment of his injuries before being transferred to LewisGale Hospital in Salem.
To ensure transparency, the Virginia State Police are conducting an independent investigation into the use of force.
