HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Marshall University has withdrawn from the Independence Bowl matchup against Army, citing a shortage of players due to the transfer portal, according to sources.
The game is scheduled for December 28 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
However, Marshall’s roster has been impacted by numerous players entering the transfer portal, leaving the team unable to field a competitive lineup.
Replacing Marshall could pose a challenge for bowl organizers, as most college football programs have already dispersed for the offseason.
If no 6-6 teams are available, a 5-7 team could be called upon as a replacement, but the timing complicates the search.
No official replacement for Marshall has been announced.
