MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) โ According to Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran, Amber Nicole Phillips, age 34, of Bluefield, West Virginia, was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 5 to 15 years in prison for her conviction of Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or a Person in a Position of Trust Allowing Sexual Abuse to be Inflicted upon a Child.
According to Cochran, Phillips was sentenced by Mercer County Circuit Court Judge Mark Wills on March 25, 2025. Judge Wills also ordered that Phillips be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of her life and that she serve an additional 10 years of supervised release upon her release from prison. Phillips was indicted by the October 2022 Mercer County Grand Jury and pled guilty in March 2023. Cochran stated the delay in sentencing was due to multiple defense lawyers withdrawing from representing Phillips prior to sentencing.
Cochran also said that Phillipsโ husband and co-defendant Eric Shawn Phillips was previously sentenced to 20-40 years in prison by Judge Wills on September 5, 2024, for two counts of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person in a Position of Trust.
Cochran commended the Mercer County Sheriffโs Department for its excellent investigation, and credited the employees at the prosecutorโs office for the successful prosecution of both Amber and Eric Phillips.
