DELBARTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is charged after she assaulted her paraplegic partner while he was in bed.
On September 23, officers responded to a domestic altercation in the Delbarton area of Mingo County. Upon arrival, authorities made contact with the victim, a paraplegic man who is wheelchair-dependent.
The victim informed officers that he and the suspect, Crystal Church, who are in a relationship and live together, had engaged in a heated verbal argument earlier in the Ben Creek area. After returning to their residence in Delbarton, the argument escalated.
According to him, the situation worsened when he went to bed. He alleged that Church entered the bedroom and assaulted him with a wooden board, striking him multiple times on the arms and body, leaving visible marks and bruises, which officers confirmed on-site.
He said that in his attempt to escape, he sought the assistance of a neighbor, who helped him leave the residence and contact law enforcement.
Officers later spoke with Church at the residence, where they observed blood on the bed. Church was arrested on the scene and transported to the West Virginia State Police Barracks for processing before being taken to Southwestern Regional Jail.
