FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Commission has appointed an interim sheriff to serve out the remainder of the term of former Sheriff Mike Fridley.
On Wednesday morning, the commission appointed Shannon Morris as interim sheriff of the county.
Morris was serving as temporary sheriff as an emergency replacement immediately following Fridley’s resignation and retirement last week.
The commission began accepting applications for interim sheriff last week and would make an official decision at today’s August 7 meeting.
There were three total applicants.
Morris will serve until January 1st when a new sheriff will be sworn in following the General Election in November.
Commissioner Allison Taylor said Morris plans to appoint former member of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Jess McMullen as his Chief Deputy.
Jess McMullen is also the Republican nominee for sheriff and is currently running unopposed.
Morris has been with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department for years and was serving as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Fridley.
Fridley has accepted a job with the Fayette County Board of Education as Fayette County Schools Security and Safety Officer for the upcoming school year.
