BARBOUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mother is charged with two counts of child abuse resulting in injury.
On September 8, 2024, Deputy N.G. Elbon, responded to a possible domestic disturbance in Barbour County, West Virginia. Upon arrival, he met with a female named Jenny Peters.
Peters stated that she and her significant other had been in a verbal argument. During our conversation, a CPS worker arrived to handle an active investigation against Peters. Peters admitted to slapping her 7-year-old daughter across the face the previous day.
Peters also reported that her 6-year-old son had sustained a head injury and was vomiting from an incident about an hour earlier. Peters said she had not been watching the children while they were playing, and another child had trapped the boy against a wall with a dresser, causing the injury. Peters did not seek any medical attention for the boy, who had an open abrasion about an inch long and 2-3 inches of swelling on his head.
At deputies request, the CPS worker visually inspected the children. This revealed a dark black and green bruise in the shape of a hand on the 7-year-old daughter’s left buttock, a red mark covering her entire cheek, and a brownish-red bruise on the 5-year-old daughter’s lower back.
Due to the active CPS case, the children were sent to stay with their grandmother, who has custody.
