ASHEVILLE, NC (LOOTPRESS) – A family’s plea for prayers has captured the heartbreak and devastation wrought by the recent hurricane, which has left many in the region stranded and desperate for rescue. One Asheville family has endured unimaginable loss as they faced the catastrophic floodwaters from their rooftop, only to be tragically separated by the forces of nature.
A resident took to social media with a heart-wrenching message, asking for prayers not only for her family but for all those affected by the hurricane’s wrath. The woman’s parents, both in their 70s, her sister, and her 7-year-old nephew had climbed onto the roof of their home in Asheville, clinging to safety as the floodwaters rose around them. They had only the clothes on their backs and one working phone to communicate.
As they waited helplessly for rescue, they watched 18-wheelers and cars being swept away by the floods, while a portion of their home had collapsed before them. Despite calling 911, emergency services were overwhelmed, as countless others were also in desperate need of rescue.
In a heartbreaking update, it was revealed that the roof had collapsed, and both her parents and nephew tragically drowned. Her sister, wedged between debris, was miraculously rescued an hour later.
“Words cannot convey the sorrow, heartbreak, and devastation my sisters and I are going through,” the woman wrote. “I cannot imagine the pain before us. Please lift my sister, who lost her son, up in prayers, and my other sister and me, as we come together to comfort her.”
The woman expressed her unwavering faith amidst the tragedy, focusing on the image of her parents and nephew finding peace, dancing joyfully with renewed bodies in the presence of Jesus. “God is faithful, just, and mourns when we mourn. He comforts us in our time of need,” she wrote, believing that her family members have been taken home in God’s way.
The survivor, Megan Drye, has been described as living through a mother’s worst nightmare, having lost her 7-year-old son and parents right before her eyes. Despite the unimaginable loss, Megan’s rescue after being trapped in the water for three hours is seen as a miracle.
“We are living in hope and peace that they are with Jesus, and we will see them again one day,” her sister wrote, sharing how they are finding comfort in their faith and the support of others. She also expressed gratitude for the doctors and nurses who cared for Megan as she began facing her new reality.
The family is now coming together to heal, drawing strength from prayers and the community’s outpouring of support. “We are truly experiencing peace beyond anything we can understand because of your prayers,” she wrote, thanking those who have continued to lift them up in their time of need.
As recovery efforts continue across Western North Carolina, stories like this family’s serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of natural disasters and the deep need for community, support, and faith during such difficult times.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the mother who has lost so much.
