BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – New details are emerging in the tragic, horrific death of a seven-year-old boy in Beckley.
Beckley Police Department responded to a reported stabbing incident at 408 Industrial Drive around 2:45 am this morning. When police arrived, a female victim was at her neighbor’s residence and noted that she was bleeding profusely from stab wounds to her face.
The victim advised officers that she had been stabbed by her boyfriend, Rashad Thompson, and alerted them because her seven-year-old child was still inside the residence.
Officers contacted Mr. Thompson at the apartment and immediately noticed that the floor inside was covered in what appeared to be blood and the apartment was in disarray. Mr. Thompson was restrained. As police were walking the apartment, they observed a hammer covered what appeared to be blood on the living room floor. They then observed a juvenile male child lying on the couch nearby. The child was suffering from extreme trauma to the left side of his head, and it was apparent that the child was deceased. Without provocation, Mr. Thompson then stated to police, “I just lost it”. Mr. Thomspon was then transported to Beckley Police Department.
In the area of the deceased child, they observed suspected blood on the walls. Detectives believed that the child had been struck repeatedly with the hammer. The child’s left side of his head was suffering from extreme blunt force trauma.
Police interviewed the neighbor, who was a witness. The witness said that the female victim came to her home and had been stabbed in the face. The victim told her neighbor that she needed to retrieve her seven-year-old and two-year-old son. The witness went back to the apartment and was able to grab the two-year-old and bring her back to her home. When she went back to get the seven-year-old, she observed Mr. Thompson violently striking an area of the couch repeatedly.
The suspect, Mr. Thompson, clothing and body were covered in blood.
Mr. Thompson has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse causing death, malicious wounding, and two counts of domestic battery. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under no bond.
