LANSING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The New River Gorge Bridge has closed to traffic and over 160 vendors are currently set awaiting the tens of thousands who journey across the bridge today.
With the bridge being closed to traffic comes detours.
A detour for commercial vehicles is in place along I-79 and I-64/77 starting at 5:30 a.m. Local traffic on Route 19 is permitted between Ames Heights Road to the north and Route 16 to the south of the bridge.
The bridge itself closes to all traffic at 7:00 a.m.
Bridge Day Event Schedule
5:30 a.m.: Vendors arrive at staging lots.
7:00 a.m.: Route 19 closes; detour begins.
7:00 – 8:00 a.m.: 5K racers arrive at pickup spots.
8:15 a.m.: Buses begin transporting racers to the start line.
8:30 a.m.: Shuttle services begin.
8:45 a.m.: Bridge Day 5K race starts.
9:00 a.m.: Bridge Day festivities begin; Into the Gorge bus rides (pre-sold tickets only) commence.
11:00 a.m.: Bridge Day Car Show at the Starlite Drive-In.
1:30 p.m.: Last Into the Gorge bus ride.
3:00 p.m.: Chili cookoff in downtown
Fayetteville; Bridge Day officially ends.
5:00 p.m.: Route 19 reopens; detour ends.
Festival Rules
Prohibited Items: No dogs, coolers, folding chairs, bicycles, skates, skateboards, wagons, weapons, fireworks, illegal drugs, or alcohol.
No Drones: Quadcopters/drones are not permitted.
Bag Restrictions: Backpacks, tote bags, large purses, camera bags, and binocular cases are prohibited.
Approved bags include clear backpacks, clear tote bags, fanny packs, and small purses or clutches (smaller than 5″x7″ and subject to search).
