TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA (LOOTPRESS)– Police arrested two parents earlier today for the overdose of their four-month-old infant.
According to the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department, an initial call came in about a deceased infant boy in April 2021. An investigation ensued, and the infant’s body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s office.
The reports came back of Suboxone and Methadone in the infant’s system. The report stated that the infant died from the “toxic effects” of both drugs. Both parents admitted to police for having Suboxone residue on them while touching their baby.
Evan Stanford, 30, and Kayla Stanford, 28, were charged with child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter.
Tazewell County Sheriff Brian Hieatt says they are taking this case seriously. Officers are working closely with the Tazewell Department of Social Services.
They are being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond. A bond hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
