KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting incident Friday evening in the 500 block of Green Valley Drive.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. after Metro 911 received reports of a man being shot in the upper torso.
Upon arrival, deputies detained one person believed to be the shooter. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Caleb Wardy, 27, of Pinch, was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend.
Family members, including Wardy’s uncle and cousin, Demetri Prouse, 45, attempted to intervene.
Wardy, who had been separated from his girlfriend, allegedly tried to re-enter the home where she was located.
During the altercation, Prouse fired a gun, striking Wardy in the upper torso. Deputies arrested Prouse on a felony charge of unlawful wounding.
Additional charges for strangulation are expected to be filed against Wardy related to the earlier domestic incident.
Deputies have determined the incident to be isolated and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
