BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two separate shootings that occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day, both stemming from large parties where altercations escalated into gunfire.
First Incident: Hedgesville
At 12:55 a.m. on January 1, deputies were dispatched to 632 Koonztown Road in Hedgesville for a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, they learned that an 18-year-old female from Martinsburg had been transported to Berkeley Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the hand.
According to the preliminary investigation, a large New Year’s party was taking place at the residence when an altercation occurred, leading to shots being fired.
Deputies secured the scene and requested assistance from the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. No additional victims were located.
Second Incident: Martinsburg
At 3:31 a.m., deputies responded to another shooting at 72 Preakness Place in Martinsburg. At the scene, they found a 21-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel treated him on-site before transporting him to Berkeley Medical Center.
Investigators later learned a second victim, a 19-year-old male, had been taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment. Both victims were last listed in stable condition.
This incident also occurred during a large New Year’s party, where a fight broke out, resulting in gunfire.
Deputies secured the scene and called in the Criminal Investigation Division to assist.
