PARKERSBURG- For the fourth consecutive week, Class AA will have a new number one.
Lincoln (4-0) takes over the top spot in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission ratings released Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars, ranked second last week, took over the top spot after last week’s No. 1 Keyser was defeated by Northern Garrett (MD).
Ironically Keyser started the streak with a defeat of Robert C. Byrd in week four. The Eagles were number one in the week three ratings. Frankfort moved to the top spot in the week four rankings, but was defeated by Northern Garrett (MD), the same Northern team that defeated Keyser, allowing the Golden Tornado to take over the top spot after the Falcons loss.
Lincoln will have to defeat Class AA No. 19 Robert C. Byrd on the road Friday night or risk becoming the fourth consecutive team to lose while holding the number one spot. Herbert Hoover, Poca, Independence and Point Pleasant are lurking should Lincoln falter.
While Class AA has seen four new number ones, Class AAA and Class A remain the same as Huntington and East Hardy lead the way for a third consecutive week. Huntington (6-0) holds down the top spot in AAA while East Hardy (5-0) occupies the top spot in A.
