PIPESTEM – Summers County continued its strong play on the links Monday winning the inaugural Dave Hicks Memorial Golf Tournament played at Pipestem State Park.
Sean Cooper earned low medalist honors with a 78 to lead the Bobcats, while teammate Xavier Honaker had the second best round of the day with an 81. Brian Cooper shot an 83 and Marshall Legg carded an 87 for Summers.
Evan Hunter from James Monroe and Andrew Addair from River View tied for fourth place individually with an 85.
Midland Trail, James Monroe and Pocahontas County followed Summers County with a team total of 280.
Going to the scores of their fourth player to break the tie, the Patriots finished second, while the Mavs came in third and the Warriors were fourth.
The tournament was played in homage to Dave Hicks who served as Regional Tournament Director and was the former Class A representative on the WVSSAC Golf Committee. Hicks was an alumni of Richwood High School and a beloved member of the community. He also served as the Lumberjacks’ golf coach for many years.

OCEANA – Kerri-Anne Cook fired a 36 Monday to lead Westside past county rival Wyoming East, 123-136 at Clear Fork Valley Golf Course.
Kanyon Paynter added a 43 for the Renegades and Brady Lester shot 44.
Caleb Simmons carded a 43 to lead the Warriors, while Logan Perdue shot 45 and Hunter Walker had a 48.
