Beckley 4, Greenbrier East 1
Fairlea – Beckley freshman pitcher Aubrey Smallwood added struck out 16 batters for the second straight game, helping the Flying Eagles to a 4-1 victory over Greenbrier East Wednesday in Fairlea.
Ava Mullins led Beckley at the plate with a double, driving in three runs while Kayla Bird went 1 for 2 with a pair of walks.
East pitcher Josi Ervin pitched the entire game, allowing four runs, two of them unearned.
The Flying Eagles improve to 10-2 and will host Princeton on Thursday.
East drops to 5-4 and will travel to Shady Spring on Friday.
Independence 6, Nicholas County 0
Summersville – Independence ace Delaney Buckland struck out 18 batters Wednesday night, shutting out Nicholas County in a 6-0 Indy win.
Buckland helped her own cause in the box, going 3 for 3 while catcher Alyssa Daniels went 2 for 4, driving in a pair of runs.
Skyler Nash collected both of the Grizzlies’ hist in the loss.
Indy improves to 8-4 and will host Class AA power Nitro on Thursday while Nicholas County will host Wyoming Eats that same day.
