Shady Spring – Shady Spring pitcher Paige Maynard struck out 16 batters in a complete-game one-hit shutout as the Tigers defeated Nicholas County 6-0 in the opening round of the Class AA region 3, Section 2 tournament.
Olivia Barnett led Shady at the plate with three hits and an RBI while Kaylee Waddell also had three hits.
Maynard helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI.
Shady advances to the winner’s bracket where it will face Independence at Indy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The last time the two teams met the game took 15 innings to finish with starters Delaney Buckland and Paige Maynard combing for 64 strikeouts.
Nicholas County will host Liberty on Wednesday in an elimination game.
Independence 10, Liberty 0
Coal City – Chloe Hart went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in there runs as Independence defeated Liberty 10-0 in five innings in the Region 3, Section 2 tournament Tuesday in Coal City.
Indy ace Delaney Buckland struck out 13 in the win, allowing one hit.
Alyssa Daniels collected three hits and drove in three runs for Indy as well while Emma Lilly drove in two runs.
Indy advances to the winner’s bracket where it will face Shady at Indy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The last time the two teams met the game took 15 innings to finish with starters Delaney Buckland and Paige Maynard combing for 64 strikeouts.
Liberty will travel to Nicholas County on Wednesday in an elimination game.
Greenbrier East 12, Oak Hill 1
Fairlea – Brooke Davis and Josi Ervin drove in three runs each as Greenbrier East defeated Oak Hill 12-1 Tuesday in the sectional tournament to advance to the winner’s bracket.
Ervin and Davis also drove in three runs each in the win while Rylee Norman, Taylor Boswell and Alanis McClarly collected two hits each.
Greenbrier East will travel to Beckley today at 6:30 while Oak Hill will host Princeton in an elimination game.
James Monroe 12, Mount View 3
Lindside – Shannon Phipps, Kadence Weikle and Haley Hunnicutt collected two hits each as the Mavericks defeated Mount View 12-3 in five innings in the sectional opener Tuesday in Lindside.
Phipps drove in two runs, as did Emily Bailey in the win.
James Monroe advances to the winner’s bracket where it will face River View on Wednesday for a spot in Friday’s championship game. Mount View will face elimination Wednesday when it travels to Montcalm.
River View 8, Montcalm 0
Bradshaw – River View collected five runs in the fifth inning to enact the mercy rule and beat Montcalm 8-0 Wednesday in Bradshaw.
Brooke Fuller drove in three runs to lead the Raiders while Morgan Marek collected two hits in the win.
The Raiders advances to the winner’s bracket where they’ll face James Monroe in Lindside on Wednesday while Montcalm will host Mount View in an elimination game.
