MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In the early hours of March 20, 2025, Sgt. Martin and Deputy Cline conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy Silverado with Tennessee registration for traffic violations along U.S. Route 52 in the Kimball area of McDowell County, West Virginia.
The driver was identified as Jose Sanchez Ruiz. During a consent search of the vehicle, Sgt. Martin and Deputy Cline discovered “contraband packages” similar to those previously found in connection with contraband being introduced into a local correctional facility.
A check of Ruiz’s driver’s license and warrants through McDowell County Communications revealed that he was wanted by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Further investigation determined that Ruiz was a previously deported felon.
He was taken into custody and placed in the McDowell County Holding Unit, where he awaits extradition.
