ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – November will see potters and pottery enthusiasts gather at the campus of Concord University for the West Virginia Potters’ Gathering event.
Set to take place from November 1 – November 3, the event will feature demonstrations, vendors sales, a student art show, and lectures by veteran potters.
Independent studio potter Linda Christianson has been announced as this year’s West Virginia Potters’ Gathering guest. Hailing from rural Minnesota, Christianson studied at Hamline University in St Paul, Minnesota and the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts in Banff, Alberta, Canada.
She has been featured in exhibits both nationally and internationally, including one-person exhibits in St. Louis as well as London. Numerous public and private collections feature Christianson’s work, including the Glenbow Museum and the American Museum of Ceramic Art.
Christianson has also taught at colleges and universities, including the Hartford Art School, University of Georgia – Athens, and Carleton College. Fellowships she has received include those from the McKnight Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
“For over 40 years the West Virginia Potters’ Gathering has shaped the thinking and output for potters in our state. As an art student and gathering participant in the 90’s I found the demonstrations to be transformative. It was profound to meeting accomplished individuals who built their careers working in the field of ceramics in my state,” said Professor of Art & Gallery Director, Jamey Biggs.
“I’m so happy that Concord has generously given a home to the gathering and has removed cost as a barrier for young people to participate. This year ceramic students from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley will be displaying their most recent ceramic efforts at the gathering. I hope the event will continue to inspire and influence future potters in our state.”
Although registration is encouraged for the event, there is no charge to attend. There is an optional charge at registration for an event shirt, however. More information on the event itself and registration can be found at the event website.
