J. D. Monroe was a one man wrecking crew for Independence Thursday night in the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 elimination game with Nicholas County.
Monroe pitched four scoreless innings and blasted a three-run home run as part of a four-RBI night to lead the Patriots past the Grizzlies, 10-0 in five innings.
Carson Brown smacked three doubles and had one RBI, while James Williams drove in a pair of runs.
Garrett Kesterson had two hits for Nicholas County.
Independence advances to the sectional championship where it will play Shady Spring Friday. The Tigers need just one win for the sectional title and Indy will need two.
Midland Trail 7, Pocahontas County 6
Hico – Midland Trail escaped elimination in Class A Region 3, Section 2 play with a 7-6 come from behind win over Pocahontas County Thursday.
The Patriots scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for their first lead of the night.
Cade Kincaid had three hits and drove in two runs for Trail and Cody Harrell had two RBI. Griffin Boggs had two hits and Will McGraw smacked a double.
David Gibb and Jamie Vandevender each had a double and two RBI for the Warriors, while Charles Long hit a double.
Midland Trail travels to Greenbrier West Friday for another elimination game.
Summers County 13, Mount View 2 (6 innings)
Hinton – Summers County scored seven runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the sixth en route to a 13-2 win over Mount View in their Class A Region 3, Section 1 elimination clash.
Alexander Hudgins had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI, while Brandon Isaac drove in three runs for the Bobcats.
Benjamin Lane hit a double and a single and had two RBI. Peyton Miller also drove in two runs.
Summers County travels to James Monroe for an elimination game Friday.
