BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It has been announced that Beckley’s twelfth annual Sensory Santa event will take place this weekend at the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia.
The event, presented as a collaborative effort between the City of Beckley‘s Department of Parks and Recreation, PNB, and The Early Show with Rick and Lola, is intended to accommodate children and individuals navigating the challenges of Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, OCD, developmental delays, and those who simply become overstimulated in loud and unpredictable environments and situations.
“Our Sensory Santa event allows for children to get comfortable in the environment, play, work on a craft, have a snack, or color,” read a statement detailing the event. “It also allows parents to meet each other and make new friends. Santa is great at bringing people together.”
Participants will not be limited to the standard photo opportunity with Kris Kringle and will be accommodated within their levels of comfort to the very best of the event hosts’ abilities.
The event will take place from 11:00am and 2:00pm, and those planning to attend with five or more guests have been asked to reach out to (304) 252-3730 prior to the visit so that those hosting will be able to prepare adequate accommodations. Though reservations are not required for the event, it has been indicated that correspondence beforehand may be beneficial to event organizers.
Check-in will take place at the front of the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia. Participants may be asked to wait in their vehicles until it is their turn to visit with Santa. Should individuals waiting for their turn need additional time, organizers will move on to the next guests and continue to check in until the guest is ready for their time with Santa.
The Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia is located at 509 Ewart Avenue in Beckley, WV. Participation in the event is $5 per person, with free entry available for children ages three-and-under and special needs guests.
Guests are encouraged to bring along their phones and cameras and to take as many photos as they wish! Additional details can be found at the Beckley Events website.
