South Charleston – After a 19-0 bruising administered by St. Marys in Game 1 of the Class A state tournament, Midland Trail tried to refocus in Game 2.
While the Patriots found more success after getting no-hit by St. Marys they still ended up on the wrong side of a mercy rule, falling 13-5 in five innings against Buffalo Wednesday night at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.
Falling behind 13-0, the Patriots rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the game respectable, adding an additional run on a Reagan Parsons single.
While Trail struggled defensively in its first loss of the day it rebounded on that side, committing just one error against Buffalo.
Breigh Martin did most of the damage for the Patriots, swatting a home run and driving in five on the evening.
The Bison advance to Thursday with the win where they’ll face Petersburg in an elimination game.
Trail, which won its section as the No. 2 seed, finishes the season 20-9 and will graduate four seniors.
