CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Many children in West Virginia face significant challenges, from food insecurity to living below the federal poverty line, often going without gifts during the holiday season. One organization, State of Mined, is stepping up to make a difference.
Founded by Delbarton native Johnny Cagigas and his wife, State of Mined is dedicated to supporting children and families in the Mountain State. Over the past few months, the organization has hosted toy drives and fundraising events across southern West Virginia, bringing much-needed cheer to the region.
This year, the group expanded its efforts to include patients at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital. On Friday, Nov. 15, State of Mined, joined by former WVU Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Huggins, delivered hundreds of items, including gloves and toys for children of all ages. The team hand-delivered some of the gifts, spreading smiles as they visited with pediatric patients and hospital staff.
“Our mission is to support children and families in need, and we’re thrilled to be able to extend that support to the patients at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital,” said Cagigas.
CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital, known for its quality care, strives to ensure that every child admitted to its pediatric floors has access to comfort items, activities, and toys during their stay. The donations from State of Mined will help the hospital continue this tradition throughout the year.
“Having these items available makes a world of difference for our patients and their families,” said a hospital spokesperson. “We are deeply grateful for State of Mined’s generosity.”
State of Mined is committed to making an impact across Appalachia, with 100% of donations going directly toward providing toys, clothing, and groceries for children and families in need.
In addition to the CAMC event, the organization plans toy distribution events in Delbarton, Williamson, and Kermit, bringing holiday cheer to even more communities.
For those looking to support State of Mined’s mission, donations can help continue this vital work for West Virginia’s children and families. Together, they’re making a difference, one child at a time.
