This years, the chances are once again favorable for a ninth straight appearance Saturday afternoon.
Two-time defending state champion Morgantown is back in Beckley and enters the state tournament as the No. 1 seed among the big schools.
The Mohigans, along with Wheeling Park and University have all represented Region 1 in the title match since 2016 and left town as the state champion.
In the case of Morgantown, it has four titles to its credit overall, but they will face a stiff test once again this year in the quest for five.
Parkersburg South has been victimized by the Mohigans each of the last two years in the title tilt and the Patriots are also back in Beckley as the No. 2 seed. Washington earned the No. 3 seed, while 2021 state champion George Washington is the No. 4 seed.
Morgantown is led by a trio of scorers in junior Ella Miller (21 goals), as well as seniors Lilly Staples (18 goals) and Ariano Borneo (19 goals). Borneo also has 22 assists on the year.
Washington fell to the Mohigans, 3-0 in early September, but the regular season clash with South ended in a 0-0 draw.
Parkersburg South (17-1-4) will be looking for its second title in school history. The Patriots have lost just once this year to Bridgeport and also has a tie with George Washington.
South also has a triple-threat scoring attack that is anchored by three seniors. Adrienne Altizer has 23 goals and 16 assists, while Regan Shockey has scored 14 times and has nine assists. Jozy Barton recorded 10 goals and 10 assists.
Washington (15-5-2) dropped the regular season meeting with Parkersburg South, 2-1, and also fell 2-0 to George Washington.
The Jefferson County Patriots have two prolific scorers in junior Jurnee Vrobel (27 goals and 12 assists) and senior Megan Cantley (20 goals and 11 assists).
George Washington (17-4-1) is far from a typical No. 4 seed and will provide a stiff test for Morgantown.
Senior all-stater Deryn Doamekpor leads G-dub with 17 goals, while junior Madison Rothwell has provided 13 assists and sophomore Ellie Pray has 12 assists.
Morgantown at George Washington will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, while Parkersburg South and Washington will kick at approximately 7 p.m.
The boys will open the AAA portion of the tournament in the morning session Thursday and will feature the three top-ranked teams in the Mountain State and a dark horse in Martinsburg.
Hurricane is the No. 1 seed, followed by Beckley at No. 2 and Wheeling Park is No. 3.
The Redskins (18-0-3) are led by junior standout Peyton Gumm, but has also received solid scoring contributions from three other juniors in Harris Coulter, Landon Stonestreet and Jack Willis.
Beckley also has several scoring threats led by Cody Dillon. The junior striker is flanked by sophomores Ali Farghaly and Hagen Hall along with senior Tyler Snyder and junior Ayden Stafford.
Park returns to Beckley with two dynamic scorers in senior Tresz McLeod and Wilson Hannah. Junior Ike Aderholt is also one of the top distributors for the Patriots.
Hurricane opened the season with a 2-0 win over Beckley at Paul Cline Stadium and bested Wheeling Park, 1-0, in early September.
The Patriots ended the regular season with a 2-1 triumph over the Flying Eagles in a match also played at Paul Cline Stadium.
Martinsburg has played the majority of its games in the Eastern Panhandle and comes to Beckley as a bit of an unknown.
Senior Sam Collins and junior Mason Hughes lead the Bulldogs in scoring and assists.
Beckley will be looking for its fourth title in school history, the first since 2010. Hurricane has two titles to its credit, the last one coming in 2017. Wheeling Park also has a pair of titles, but is riding a 23 year title drought. Martinsburg is vying to play in its first ever championship match in boys soccer.
Hurricane and Martinsburg will square off at 10 a.m., while Beckley and Park are set for a noon kick immediately following.
