MOUNT AIRY, NC (LOOTPRESS) – The Surry County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a tragic double shooting that occurred early this morning. At approximately 6:26 a.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a double shooting at 165 King Park Circle in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a female victim deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. A second female victim, suffering a gunshot wound to the neck, was found in critical condition. The critically injured victim was initially transported by the Surry County Emergency Services to Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy and later transferred to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she is considered in critical condition.
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, responded to the scene to begin a thorough investigation. The case is being treated as a homicide. Detectives issued a warrant for first-degree murder on Evan Alexander Burcham (White/Male, 23).
Deputies with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office located Burcham, getting off of Interstate 77 at Exit 1 in Virginia. Burcham traveled to the address of Pauls Creek Road, Cana, Virginia. As Burcham pulled into the property, deputies seen Burcham discharge a firearm inflicting a self-inflicted wound. Burcham was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County Fire and Rescue.
