RAND, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities have released additional details regarding a Wednesday night incident in which law enforcement was called to a scene where a woman had reportedly been shot in the face.
According the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have charged Aweis Mohamed Abdi, 29 years old of Columbus, Ohio with one count of felony malicious wounding in relation to the Rand County shooting on Wednesday.
When deputies initially responded to the scene, a semi-automatic handgun believed to have been used in the crime was located.
Bystanders informed deputies that Abdi had shot the female victim and departed the scene in a silver SUV with the female victim as well as an eight-year-old child inside.
Throughout the investigation, deputies received information indicating that the suspect could be transporting the victim and child to Ohio, thus beginning a multi-county search for the vehicle involved.
Deputies were able to successfully locate the vehicle, coordinating with other 911 centers throughout the state, as well as with the West Virginia State Police.
The vehicle was stopped off the 29th Street Exit in the Huntington area by West Virginia State Police members and the suspect was apprehended.
The female victim was discovered by authorities still inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The eight-year-old child was discovered unharmed.
The victim was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington to receive medical treatment. She remains at the facility in stable condition at the time of writing.
Aweis Mohamed Abdi was arraigned on Friday morning in Cabell County by a Cabell County Magistrate. A bond was set for $50,000.00 cash and he remains at Western Regional Jail.

RAND, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One arrest has been made in relation to a violent Wednesday night incident in which a woman was reported to have been shot in the face.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at around 10:50 p.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 300 block of Davidson Avenue in the Rand area.
Residents of the neighborhood are said to have contacted emergency services, advising operators that their neighbors had been fighting when a gunshot was fired.
Deputies arrived at the scene and were informed that a male had allegedly shot a female in the face. The two individuals involved are said to have then left the residence along with two other occupants in a gray Dodge Journey with Ohio registration.
Deputies successfully tracked the Dodge Journey, catching up with the individuals in Cabell County where the vehicle exited at 29th Street in Huntington. It was located by West Virginia State Police shortly after and Troopers stopped the Dodge Journey, detaining the suspect.
The female inside the vehicle was confirmed to have sustained a gunshot wound and she was quickly transported to an area hospital to receive medical treatment.
Additional details pertaining to the investigation, including the identities of the individuals involved, have yet to be released by law enforcement at the time of writing, as the case is still developing.
