LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPREWSS) – Official State Oracle of Tibet and spiritual advisor to the Dalai Lama, the Nechung Oracle, Kuten-la paid a visit to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine on Tuesday.
Addressing an audience of over 120 with assistance from a translator, the Oracle noted that the visit was merely random circumstance, but that those in the room were sharing the same space due to a bond from a previous lifetime.
The Oracle explained that through Buddhism, understanding who one is today is contingent upon reflection on previous lifetimes. He also expressed gratitude at the opportunity to be able to speak at, “a special gathering in a special place,” commending the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for its efforts to endow students with knowledge which will allow them to reduce suffering and to show kindness and compassion.
Also noted to be of importance by the Oracle was consideration of the well-being of the body and mind, but also of the soul and spirit. The reception saw a prayer shared with the audience by the Oracle, who also conducted individual blessings
The event was coordinated by Associate Dean for Multicultural and Student Affairs, Dawn Roberts, Ed.D., and Regional Assistant Dean for the South Central regional of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine‘s Statewide campus. West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine President, James W. Nemitz, Ph.D., welcome the Oracle to the WVSOM campus in a live video message.
The Oracle stated that human beings fall into three distinct categories: those who embrace faith and spirituality, those who have no regard whatsoever for spirituality, and those who are actively opposed to religion.
The current Nechung Oracle is the Venerable Thupten Ngodup, who has been the medium of the Oracle since 1987. He was accompanied by his personal assistant, Tenzin Rinchen, monks from the Nechung Monastery, Ganpat Purevdirj and Bayara Purevragchaa, and translator, Tenzin Chogyal.
