BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Tom Truman was sworn in on Monday as Interim Prosecuting Attorney for Raleigh County.
Truman was sworn in by Raleigh County Circuit Judge, Andrew Dimlich before friends, family, and employees of the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The swearing in follows the resignation of former Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney, Ben Hatfield in the midst of allegations of misconduct.
Prior to his appointment, Truman had taken over prosecution in the Natalie Cochran case, which has seen numerous delays based on requests for evidentiary materials by the defense.
Hatfield confirmed through a resignation statement that, should he secure victory in the upcoming Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney election, he will refuse the office.
“My decision to step down is final, and my focus is now directed toward new priorities outside of public office,” said Hatfield.
Tom Truman is expected to begin work as Interim Prosecuting Attorney immediately.
