HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The annual festival celebrating the railroad heritage of Hinton kicks off on Friday, and what better way to arrive than by train?
Hinton Railroad Days is an annual festival held each October that celebrates the heritage and history of the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Railway which was completed through West Virginia in 1873.
Today, the rail line remains active under the ownership of CSX Transportation. Amtrak also runs along the old C&O and stops at Hinton.Â
The Amtrak Cardinal runs through the New River Gorge three days a week from Chicago to New York twice a day. Eastbound in the morning and westbound in the evening.
One could ride Amtrak from Huntington, Charleston, Montgomery, Thurmond, or Prince to Hinton and make it back home on the same day.Â
Riding from Charleston, one will be able to witness views of Kanawha Falls, Hawks Nest, the New River Gorge Bridge, the coke ovens at Sewell, historic Thurmond and Prince, Sandstone Falls, and much more.
Hinton Railroad Days runs from Friday, October 11, to Sunday, October 13. So, one could only ride the train to Hinton on Friday and Sunday.
Tickets are limited and can be purchased on Amtrak’s website by choosing your starting station and entering Hinton as your destination. Prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand as well as location.
Hinton Railroad Days will feature multiple food and craft vendors, live music, and the Hinton Railroad Museum will also be open.Â
