WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) โ Two men were caught inside the abandoned Pinnacle Mines facility Tuesday afternoon after authorities responded to suspicious noises coming from the building.
At approximately 2:40 PM, L. Cpl. J. Grimmette of the Wyoming County Sheriffโs Office heard footsteps and loud banging while patrolling near the old mine site along Route 16. After alerting Sgt. C. Hedinger, who had prior knowledge of thefts in the area, the two officers entered the building.
Upon reaching the second floor, officers discovered two male suspects, later identified as Thomas Hurley and another individual, (not named), rummaging through the structure. One suspect was found armed with a 9mm pistol, which was immediately secured. A search revealed various stolen items, including tools, wiring, and equipment believed to have been taken from the property.
Outside, officers located a red Chevy S-10 pickup truck parked behind the building, filled with additional mining equipment. A further search uncovered a second firearm inside the vehicleโs glove compartment.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Wyoming County Sheriffโs Office for processing. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
