WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Potential inclement weather through this week into next could result in some extra days off for students.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued an update regarding ongoing and upcoming winter weather conditions that could affect travel and safety across the region.
Tonight:
Snow showers in lower elevations are expected to taper off tonight.
However, in mountain areas, snow and gusty winds will persist through Thursday morning, with an additional couple of inches possible.
Hazardous travel conditions remain a concern in these areas.
Friday:
Snow is forecasted to move in from the west before dawn on Friday.
Lower elevations may experience a mix of rain and snow throughout the day, while mountainous regions are likely to receive 4 inches or more of snow.
In contrast, lower elevations are expected to see less than 3 inches. Residents are encouraged to check updated maps for localized impacts.
Sunday-Monday:
The NWS is monitoring a potentially significant winter storm for late Sunday into Monday.
This system could bring widespread snow, with impacts to the Monday morning commute becoming increasingly likely.
The exact track of the storm remains uncertain, but freezing rain or sleet may mix in depending on its path.
Residents are advised to prepare for slick roads, hazardous travel, and possible power outages through the weekend and into early next week.
