PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 3-year-old who was reported missing has died after leaving home undetected.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:48 PM, 911 dispatched deputies to the area of Happy Valley Road in Parkersburg regarding a missing 3-year-old juvenile.
Deputies immediately requested assistance from the Eastwood and Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Departments to help search for the juvenile.
It was found that the three-year-old foster child had wandered out the back door, undetected, leaving the home.
As other sheriff deputies arrived on the scene, Sgts. Edwards, Shriver, and Dep. Basnett began to search the exterior of the residence.
The child was discovered by the deputies near a dock in the water unresponsive.
The deputies began life-saving measures until medics arrived on the scene.
The child was transported by Camden Clark Ambulance Service to CCMC. The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies notified Child Protective Services regarding this incident which is continuing to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and CPS.
At this time, no foul play is suspected.
The sheriff’s office will not be releasing the names of those involved at this time.
