WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Residents of southeast and eastern West Virginia should prepare for a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow as multiple winter weather alerts have been issued across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, hazardous conditions are anticipated to impact travel and could lead to power outages in several areas.
Winter Weather Advisories
Affected Areas and Timing:
- Mercer County: From midnight Saturday night to noon Sunday, expect freezing rain with up to one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation. Snow or sleet may mix in at times, though accumulations will likely remain under an inch.
- Eastern and Western Greenbrier Counties, Summers, Monroe, and Southeast Raleigh Counties: From 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, freezing rain mixed with sleet or snow is expected, with up to two-tenths of an inch of ice and less than an inch of snow or sleet accumulation.
- Southeast Webster, Southeast Fayette, and Southeast Nicholas Counties: From 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, mixed precipitation may result in up to 3 inches of snow and ice accumulations of two-tenths of an inch. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph.
Impacts:
Slippery road conditions are likely, and ice could accumulate on trees, potentially causing localized power outages.

- Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Pocahontas, and Southeast Randolph Counties: From late Saturday night through Sunday evening, heavy mixed precipitation is possible. Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one-quarter inch could lead to tree damage and power outages.
- Western Grant and Western Pendleton Counties: From Sunday morning through Monday morning, snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected. Snowfall could total 1 to 3 inches, with up to 6 inches in isolated areas. Freezing rain accumulations of one-quarter inch are possible.
- Western Mineral County: From Sunday morning through Monday morning, snow and sleet could bring accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated areas seeing up to 6 inches. Freezing rain may also cause ice accumulations of one-quarter inch.
- Eastern Tucker County: From Sunday morning through Monday morning, freezing rain could lead to ice accumulations of around one-quarter inch, along with less than one inch of snow.
Impacts:
Tree damage and power outages are likely in areas receiving heavy ice accumulations. Travel could become nearly impossible, and hazardous conditions may linger into the Monday morning commute.
