TUG VALLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An incident at a high school basketball game between Tug Valley and Logan last week has resulted in the arrest of one Logan County woman.
According to a criminal complaint, at the end of the 4th quarter, an incident took place. Several coaches and fans entered the court in an aggressive manner.
Mingo County Sheriff Joe Smith, who was in plain clothes, then exited the stands to assist, Sgt. D. Nunley from the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, who at the time, was the only officer present.
The complaint states that Sheriff Smith is seen on camera for approximately 6 minutes walking around the court addressing coaches, referees, and the Principal of Tug Valley High School, as he and Sgt. Nunley was trying to resolve the situation as calmly as possible.
Sheriff Smith then goes in front of the Tug Valley pep section in an attempt to prevent any further incident.
A female student from Tug Valley High School and an adult female Logan fan began screaming and pointing at each other from across the court. Once the Tug Valley student and the adult fan started walking toward one another, Sheriff Smith then approached the female student from Tug Valley and directed her to leave the gym.
The complaint further states that Sheriff Smith then walked across the court pointing at the female, who was identified by the defendant as her sister-in-law, directing her to leave the gym.
While approaching the female fan, said defendant did advance towards Sheriff Smith and pushed him multiple times in the chest in an insulting and provoking nature, disturbing the peace in a public place.

Once Sheriff Smith was able to get said defendant outside the gym, Sheriff Smith gave her a business card with the Ming County Sheriff’s Department information advising her to make contact with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department Monday morning to make arrangements for said defendant to turn herself in on a misdemeanor warrant.
On Monday, January 9th, Michelle Taylor Napier was arrested in Logan County by Chief Field Deputy M. Lafauci for battery and disorderly conduct.
