CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine on Wednesday held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house event to introduce the new WVSOM Charleston facility as part of the school’s Statewide Campus system.
The new facility, located at 3211 MacCorkle Ave. SE across from CAMC Memorial Hospital, will allow for the medical school to have a more visible and viable presence in the Kanawha County area.
WVSOM Associate Dean for Predoctoral Clinical Students, Art Rubin, D.O., was a crucial voice in the establishment for a larger dedicated space in Charleston for the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Rubin addressed those in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“This building represents the next step in providing opportunities to the next generation of WVSOM students,” declared Rubin. “It will be a place for our students and staff to network, to learn, to set goals, to take initiatives and to reflect on our past experiences. In an era that is characterized by change, those who are prepared to embrace opportunities will not only thrive but also inspire others to do the same.”
Featured as part of the new addition to the schools statewide campus system are two large classrooms, multiple staff offices, a study area for students, and a lounge area.
West Virgina School of Osteopathic Medicine President, James W. Nemitz, Ph.D., commented on the importance of the relationship between WVSOM and CAMC and Vandalia Health.
“What’s in it for Charleston? For one, our students are here delivering health care for hospital systems. You have students who are contributing to the economic vitality of Charleston,” said Nemitz. “We have an economic impact. When we did our last study in 2020 – we know that now those numbers are going to be higher – was $4.2 million [in the South Central region.] That’s only going to grow with a facility like this.”
