MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Today, the West Virginia University (WVU) Board of Governors held a special meeting to advance the next phase of the presidential search process.
The Board endorsed the WVU Presidential Leadership Profile, designed to attract top candidates and define the expectations for the University’s next president.
The profile, created with the help of search partner WittKieffer, is based on feedback from 34 listening sessions held throughout the summer and nearly 1,200 survey responses from various stakeholders.
Rick Pill, Chair of the Board of Governors, highlighted the importance of the Leadership Profile in capturing WVU’s unique story, reflecting on the University’s values and goals for its future leader.
“On behalf of the Board, we greatly appreciate the engagement and insights from faculty, staff, students, alumni and citizens thus far in the process,” Pill said.
The Leadership Profile will be released on Friday, Oct. 11, when the formal application process opens. WittKieffer will begin identifying and recruiting candidates who best align with the profile.
It will be available to view on the WVU Presidential Search website that same day.
The Board also approved the finalist selection process for the search, which includes the Search Committee reviewing applications, conducting preliminary interviews, and recommending 3 to 5 finalists.
The Board will then conduct in-person interviews with the finalists and select the next president by the spring of 2025.
Pill acknowledged that while some may want finalists to be publicly named, doing so might discourage high-caliber candidates from applying, especially those in senior positions at other institutions.
For those interested in engaging in the search process, a meet-and-greet will be held tomorrow (Oct. 10) from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center with BOG Vice-Chair and Search Committee Chair Dr. Patrice Harris and faculty members of the Search Committee.
Updates on the search can be found on WVUToday, MOUNTAINEER E-News, Unews, the Alumni Newsletter, and the Presidential Search website at presidentialsearch.wvu.edu.
The Board’s next regular meeting is set for Nov. 22.
