MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University Police issued a Campus Warning on Saturday, Dec. 14, following a reported burglary at 216 Belmar Avenue, near the Downtown campus area.
The incident, which occurred before 6 a.m. Saturday, was reported to University Police later that evening.
Surveillance footage revealed that one of two suspects entered the building through an unlocked basement window.
University Police are actively investigating and have released several photos of one suspect.
Investigators are also working to determine if this incident is connected to two previous burglaries.
“We cannot stress enough how important it is that members of our University community secure their property — whether that be their homes or vehicles,” said Chief Sherry St. Clair.
Ahead of winter break, Chief St. Clair, UPD officers, and University representatives visited residences in the North High Street to Price Street and Prospect Street to Waverly Street areas on Monday.
The visits aim to reinforce safety measures and provide reminders to students. Printed safety materials will be left at residences for students who are not home during the visits.
